Progress in Motion

“Whatsoever you have done to the least of my brothers you have done unto Me!”

The overlooked and unwanted had finally got a place to call home. They loved the modular units with their own cooking and bathing facilities. They delighted in the fact that they had been able to create an abode for themselves....something which they could not even dream of a few short months ago. Their success in improving their lot, gave them faith in the future and a determination to help others.

Mr. Bob and his team then followed through with the construction a community hall in the center of Park Providence. It was to be a place for entertainment, meeting, lectures, training, and doing some assembly and piecework that provided the resources for paying the rents and utility bills like the rest of the world.

Several pickup trucks were leased and my brothers were trained in various trades using available state funded training programs and other resources. These skills added to the revenues of each inhabitant. Those who did not have a trade or job provided child-care, laundry, ironing, yard maintenance and similar services and received compensation in kind.

As the community prospered, a quaint restaurant called “C’est Providence” was built. It served great, home cooked, food in an exotic setting, it offered a table cloths, napkins, china, wine and cheese and cigars. Truly five star with some stimulating music played on a Piano to help savor the environment. You see, all the food was prepared fresh, the service was exceptional, the environment top class - all done by the brothers and sisters that society did not want to be near.

As word got around people wanted to spend whole weekends in the quiet and peace of Park Providence. They wanted to be served, massaged, bask in the sun, sit by an open fireplace and roast marshmallows. Mr. Bob and his team raised additional funds and installed a swimming pool and fire-pits. A dance floor was added to the restaurant and a few romantic cottages were built. A reservation system was installed. By this time self-respect returned, hunger, cold, fear vanished and my brothers became American citizens for real and Park Providence had arrived.
